A busy highway under construction in Northeast Missouri was reopened just in time for the holiday weekend.
Route 79 opened about a week ago to help ease traffic flow and allow access to businesses like Sawyer's Creek Fun Park, who depend on the highway for business. While construction hasn't been easy on them, general manager Jeanne Youngwirth said she's happy to have a break from the blocked traffic.
"As hot as it was the first two days, we had some pretty good traffic that came through the holiday weekend, and I think a lot of that, we can depend on being because the highway was back open and things are back to normal," Youngwirth said.
The second phase of construction, which will shut down some lanes on Route 79, will start a week from Monday.
