MACOMB, Il. (WGEM) -- It's back to work for Western Illinois after last week's dominating 33 point season opening win over Hampton.

The defense was the story forcing nine turnovers and scoring three touchdowns, but the offense was limited to only 262 yards.

Head coach Bob Nielson tells WGEM Sports says that group must improve heading into week two where the Leathernecks will host Quincy University.

"We did a very poor job of converting third downs and keeping drives alive," Nielson expressed.

"With the field position that we had we should have put more points on the board. We weren't very effective in the red zone and didn't capitalize on some scoring situations."

With one game under their belt, Nielson says that it's vital that his team cash in on those chances in the weeks ahead leading up to Missouri Valley Conference play.

"As we head into this schedule, starting with this week, we have to advantage of those scoring opportunities," he said.

Western Illinois and Quincy University get underway from Hanson field with a 1-o'clock kickoff on Saturday.

WGEM Sports will have more on this match-up with our weekly 'On The Sidelines' segment coming up on Thursday night.
