Keokuk city officials say deadline to run for mayor is approaching

Keokuk residents will head to the polls soon to elect the next mayor, and city officials say the deadline to run is approaching.

City officials say all candidates seeking office for the mayor have to submit their paperwork by September 19th before 5 p.m.

In order to run, each candidate needs to get at least 43 signatures to qualify.

"They have to get the required number of signatures and that's based on previous elections. How many people voted for that particular office so it's different for each city," said Lee County Elections Deputy Joan Fraise.

Elections are also being held for Councilperson at Large and Councilperson's for the 1st, 3rd, 5th and 7th wards.

Election day is Tuesday November 5th.
