The Siege Celebration will be held this weekend in Fort Madison despite fire damages

Despite unfinished repairs to the old Fort Madison, the city's annual Siege Celebration will go on as scheduled this weekend.

The walls and ceiling of the western blockhouse received significant damage from a fire last October, and officials say there isn't a start date on repairs.

The Siege is a re-creation of an attack on the fort in 1812.

It's usually the biggest event each year for the fort, but officials say it will be scaled down this year because of the damage.

"This year it will be a little bit smaller because of the damage to some of the buildings because we don't have the facilities to put up our reenactors to sleep as we normally do," said site manager Dr. Eugene Watkins.

There will be battle and artillery demonstrations throughout the weekend at the fort.

For exact times, you should contact the fort.
