Hannibal's Riverview Park Trail permanently closed by city

A popular trail in Hannibal's Riverview Park is permanently closed as a result of the May 20th wind storm.

Hannibal Parks and Rec officials say safety and the cost to clean up Riverview Park Trail are the major reasons for closing it.  They say it would cost more than one million dollars to remove the damage that's blocking the trail, but those who use the trail think they should spend the extra money to clean it up.

"I think it'd be nice. I mean there's a lot of people that use the trail, but I think they ought to open it back up," said Gene Magee, who walks the trails often.

This is the 2nd major landslide the city has dealt with over the last 3 years.  Officials say even if they did clean up the area, there would be no guarantee it would prevent another landslide in the future.
