Missouri lawmakers speak in favor of HB 253

Missouri Governor Jay Nixon vetoed 29 bills this summer, but there's one in particular republican lawmakers hope to override next week.

A proposal to cut state income taxes.

State Representative Denny Hoskins is traveling the state to educate the public about the benefits of the tax bill. Governor Jay Nixon has been doing the same -saying there would be too many consequences if the bill became law, such as a lack of funding for schools.

Hoskins says that's not the case at all. He says the bill would stimulate job growth in Missouri, as he's seen happen in Kansas. "I do not believe that Kansas has better educational opportunities than Missouri or better infrastructure, so when you see companies move from Missouri to Kansas,  the only thing I can think of is that they have economic policies that are perceived to be better," he said.

Legislators return for the veto session on September 11th.
