Fire investigation of the Newcomb Hotel wraps up

As demolition is underway at the Newcomb Hotel, the Quincy Fire Department is wrapping up their portion of the investigation.

Fire chief Joe Henning says investigators were on scene both Saturday and Sunday, as well as Monday morning basically to answer some preliminary questions. They were unable to enter the building due to safety concerns, but worked alongside the demolition company to check over things as the process continued.

But Henning says now that they have some basic information, the next phase of the investigation is headed up by the Quincy Police Department. "From our perspective, we've done all we can do, as far as we know where the fire started - we think the fire started on the third floor in the addition to the building - we know that for a fact, and we have a good idea of how the fire spread throughout the building. Beyond that - how it started, we don't really have a way of knowing that, and that's where the police department and the interviews are going to have to hopefully lead us to some information," he said.

And as the police department begins the interviewing process, Henning asks if anyone has any information on the fire to contact officers right away.
