New playground coming to Quincy's Northwest side

A playground for children, designed by children will be going up this weekend on Quincy's Northwest side.

The Quincy Area Project and numerous volunteers were preparing the site Thursday so even more people can come to install equipment on Saturday.  This is the first playground the Quincy Area Project has put together, and Fiscal Consultant Chasidy Rees said it's desperately needed in the area.

"We're doing it because there is no area close to our kids. If you ever come here they're on the streets on the sidewalks. They have to cross Gardner Expressway just to a park so they need a place to go," said Rees.

The rest of the work will start Saturday Morning at 8 at 1201 N. 5th Street at the Jefferson Youth Center, and the playground should be ready to use by later that afternoon.
