Police retrace footsteps in Quincy car theft

Authorities say a Quincy man is behind bars after crashing a stolen car before leaving the scene.

Sheriff Brent Fischer says 34-year-old Kevin L. Young, of Quincy, was arrested for theft over $10,000, attempted burglary, driving with a suspended license and leaving the scene of a property damage accident.

Investigators say it started just after 6 a.m. when Young wrecked a stolen car into a mailbox on Springlake Drive. He then walked to the Spring Lake Estates area where he asked for help.

One witness told WGEM News that the man showed up at her door step holding a suitcase and then disappeared leaving it behind. Another neighbor heard the man calling for help under her neighbors back deck but when she called 911, she said he ran off.

Deputies arrested Young shortly after 9 a.m.

Young was placed in the Adams County Jail.
