A local organization is looking to get kids started this school year on the right foot.
The Quincy YMCA is collecting new or gently used children's shoes all this month that will go to kids at Berrian Elementary and Washington Elementary schools.
Current and non-members who donate a pair of shoes will received membership discounts ranging from a one month free membership to additional guest passes.
Officials with the YMCA hope this not only boosts membership numbers, but more importantly, helps local kids.
"It might be the only pair of shoes they have this year so we're glad we can help them out and give them a new pair of shoes for school. We decided this year to do shoes to collect for kids at Berrian and Washington school so we could take them to them and some adults, their parents and kind of help them out a little bit," said YMCA Marketing Director, Michelle Terwelp.
Terwelp says they are hoping to collect 40 pairs of shoes.
If you have shoes you want to donate, you can drop them off during the YMCA's regular business hours.
