QUINCY, Ill. (WGEM) -
A man was seriously wounded after being shot in Quincy late Saturday afternoon, police said.

Officers said they responded just after 5pm Saturday to the shooting scene in the 900 block of Hampshire Street, on the eastern edge of the downtown area.

Quincy Police Sgt. Doug VanderMaiden said the victim, a 25-year-old man, suffered serious injuries.  The victim's name was not released.

VanderMaiden said the victim was taken to Blessing Hospital, but there have been no updates on his condition since the moments following the shooting.

Investigators remained on scene for hours Saturday night, as they gathered evidence and conducted interviews. They were still trying to figure out exactly what happened and did not have a suspect in custody on Sunday, VanderMaiden said.

Police have been very tight lipped about the shooting since the moment they arrived on scene Saturday night. VanderMainden said he expected more information to be released on Monday.

Meanwhile, neighbors said they were shocked. "This is a nice and quiet neighborhood and I've lived here for 8 years and this is the first time I've ever seen anything happen like that," said Duane Steffan.
