Authorities release 911 call from Lock and Dam 21 scare

Editor's note: The 911 recording has been edited to remove profanity, but it still contains graphic descriptions of the woman's account of the situation.

QUINCY, Ill. (WGEM) -- The recording of a woman's 911 call, that prompted Adams County deputies to swarm Quincy's Lock and Dam 21 with assault weapons pulled on September 20, was released Monday.

Adams County Sheriff Brent Fischer said his deputies were asked by federal authorities to take a man traveling in a boat into custody because he had kidnapped the woman with him.

The recording of the woman's 911 call offers a better understanding of why police took the situation so seriously. In the call, she repeatedly said the man had held her on the boat for weeks and had tried to kill her three times.

The man was taken into custody, but later released after the FBI said the woman's story wasn't true and there was no kidnapping.

FBI officials believe the woman willingly traveled with the man.
