YMCA looking to buy Y-MEN pavilion from city

The Y Men's Pavilion in downtown Hannibal could soon have new owners.

The YMen's club wants to buy the property from the city...the pavilion is used for many events throughout the year.  It was originally owned by the YMCA until the property was donated to the city in 1993.  YMCA Board Vice President J.R Bareis said there are many benefits to the YMCA owning the pavilion instead of the city.

"We're going to be able to take and focus a lot more on it.  The city has a lot of things they are a part of.  We understand that, we respect that. But with the YMCA owning it and it being the second property of the YMCA we're going to be able to focus a lot of time and effort on it," he said.

The city council will discuss the selling of the property in closed session during the next city council meeting.
