When hiring a babysitter, how do you know if they're really capable of caring for your children?
The American Red Cross is helping to make sure there's plenty of babysitters out there with a strong education in childcare by teaching classes to potential babysitters.
Class participants in Hannibal learned how to handle an emergency, deal with a disobedient child, and present themselves to parents.
"They're here and they're ready to go," said Susan DeWitt, an instructor with the American Red Cross. "They're ready to go out and conquer the world. They're empowered to talk to adults. We talk about the interview process. So we're getting some good skills into them, beyond just babysitting."
