HANNIBAL, Mo. (WGEM) -

As part of Utility Week, employees from the Hannibal Board of Public Works helped some of America's heroes.

BPW employees worked on two veterans' homes in Hannibal that needed repairs Monday.  Crews took care of an uprooted tree, fixed a broken porch and repaired some windows.

Director of Communications Cindy Livesay says even though work can get busy, they love to take some time to help out their community.

"Due to other things that we have going on right now, it's hard to find time to always be able to give back to the community. But this week is set for us every year. We'll always celebrate Public Utilities Week and we will always be looking for ways to give back within the community," said Livesay.

Employees say it's a great opportunity to give back to the community.

"It feels wonderful. I've spoken with our recipient several times today and she's having a hard time keeping dry eyes. And that makes us feel good. We're really excited that we're able to help her in this way," said Livesay.

Lowe's, Sutherland's, Farm and Home, and the Hannibal Home Store donated the materials needed for this week's projects.
