Traffic changes in the works for 48th Street

Traffic changes are in the works for 48th Street in Quincy.

At Monday night's city council meeting, aldermen approved the traffic improvement plans for 48th Street from State Street to Columbus Road. This is an agreement alongside the Adams County Highway Department.

Interim City Engineer Marty Wagner says there's been a lot more traffic on that street lately due to new developments.

"What we're seeing is cars stopping in one of the lanes and cars backing up behind it, so what we want to do is go from the two lanes that we have right now, two in each direction, to a three-lane like we put in on Maine Street," he explained.

Wagner says the plans also call for bike lanes.

Also at Monday's city council meeting, Aldermen approved spending more than $24,000 for new batteries for traffic signals. They also authorized extending contracts for yard waste, recycling, and solid waste disposal.
