Barry teen arrested after allegedly striking man

BARRY, Ill. (WGEM) -

The Pike County Sheriff's Office is reporting the arrest of a 17-year-old Barry teenager after he allegedly hit a man with an unspecified weapon.

Levi E. Niffen was arrested Sunday night and charged with aggravated battery and unlawful use of a weapon.

Niffen was also charged with criminal damage to property.

Sheriff Paul Petty says deputies were dispatched to the 800 block of Green Street in Barry Sunday around 9:30 p.m. because of a reported assault. When authorities arrived they found evidence of a crime scene that included a weapon related to the battery and property damage.

The 42-year-old victim was treated at a nearby hospital before being transferred to another.

Niffen is being held on a $500,000 bond.
