Free parking lot now open in downtown Quincy

Good news for those who visit downtown Quincy a lot. More parking is now available downtown.

The new parking lot is located at the corner of 6th and Jersey Streets. Executive Director for Historic Quincy Business District Travis Brown said the parking lot is geared more toward downtown employees, but anyone can use it.

Brown said the extra space was needed in the growing downtown district.

"There's got to be a place for those people to go and this was a great solution where it's close enough for those employees to walk on a daily basis, but not so far way that they won't come to it," Brown said.

The entire lot is free to use, but there are still some final touches that need to be made, like concrete-sealing.

"And they'll kind of do that in stages where a few spots maybe, like one row of traffic may be stopped for a day so they can seal that and move on. But those are the little things that come with the lot," said Brown.

Brown also said the extra space will be a big help during events like Blues in the District and Gus Macker.
