Historic Quincy Business District recognized for website

The Historic Quincy Business District is being recognized as a leader in innovation.

Illinois Main Street awarded Quincy with the "Innovation Award" for its collaborative e-commerce site for downtown businesses.

"We're the first ones doing this," said Travis Brown, Executive Director for the Historic Quincy Business District. " Nobody else in the country actually is doing a collaborative e-commerce site. Some are in the process of developing one now because they've seen ours, but we were kind of the first ones to cross the finish line with that."

The site, www.shopdowntownquincy.com, started in January 2013. It gives each business the opportunity to have its own individual site allowing for online sales.

"It's something most of them couldn't do on their own because it is very costly to build an e-commerce site and, so by doing the new style, or this new way, we've been able to really cut their cost." said Brown.

Austin Properties was also awarded "Outstanding Property Owner" with 17 properties in the downtown area, and more than 50 throughout the community.
