Plans advance for new Palmyra Police Station

Palmyra is one step closer to getting a new police station.

Palmyra City Council gave Police Chief Eddie Bogue the go-ahead to get floor plans and estimates on a new building.  This comes after a needs-assessment survey said many features of the police department were inadequate, such as the parking lot and the lack of space.

Bogue said if the city gets a new building, he wants it to last.

"A lot of places make the mistake and they build for their need now," Bougue said. "What you need to do is look into the future and I would say up to 20 years into the future."

The current police station is roughly 650 square feet.
