Raccoon causes power outage in Adams County

ADAMS COUNTY, Ill. (WGEM) -

Ameren Illinois officials say a raccoon caused several people to lose power overnight in Adams County

Ameren's Chris Brassfield says a raccoon on the capacitor bank at a substation in Clayton caused a power outage Monday around 11 p.m. The outage affected 119 customers in Clayton and Camp Point.

"It was like low voltage," JoEllen Smith said. "Weird. At times it was out then my fan acted like it was burn[ed] up from low voltage."

Brassfield says the low-voltage could have been caused by back-feed from another live power line.
