Illinois concealed carry classes begin

QUINCY, Ill. (WGEM) -- Conceal carry training is off with a bang in the Quincy area.

Great River Firearms Training has begun one of the first conceal carry classes in the state of Illinois.  About 20 people are enrolled in the first class.  Friday night was the classroom portion at the Quincy VFW.

Participants have to take a total of 16 hours of training.  They'll wrap up this course with four hours of live range shooting.  Instructors believe more and more people will sign up now that the groundwork is in place for proper training.

"When you leave here you will understand what implications there are if you have to get into a situation where you have to use a pistol to defend yourself and you better know what you're doing and we'll teach you," says Robert McClintock, a Concealed Carry instructor.

A concealed carry permit will cost you around $450 and that includes the class, electronic fingerprinting and application fee.

Members of this first class could get their permits as early as January 5th.
