Illinois fall veto session off to a slow start

The Legislature's fall session is off to a slow start, as lawmakers have delayed action on some of the biggest issues on their agenda.

Rep. Mike Zalewski is the sponsor of a bill requiring a 3-year prison sentence for illegally packing a loaded gun. The Riverside Democrat put off calling for a committee vote Tuesday, saying he's started more negotiations with the National Rifle Association to find common ground.

Rep. John Bradley has called off a vote on a bill to give Archer Daniels Midland Company up to $24 million in tax breaks to keep its headquarters in Illinois. The Marion Democrat says it's still under consideration.

The sponsor of same-sex marriage legislation hasn't indicated when he'll call for a vote.
