A homeless man accused of setting trash on fire in the hallway of an apartment building pled guilty in court Tuesday.

Adams County State's Attorney Jon Barnard says 33-year-old Eric Kithcart pled guilty to an amended arson charge. Kithcart was originally charged with aggravated arson, a class 1 felony.

The amended charge is a class 2 felony.

Kithcart is scheduled to be sentenced Dec. 16 and faces three to seven years in prison.

Quincy police and fire departments responded to 436 N. 4th on June 17 around 5:30 p.m. after reports of trash burning on the sidewalk. Investigators later determined that Kithcart set the trash on fire in the hallway of the apartment building while people were inside.
