Canton firefighters battle barn fire

CANTON, Mo. (WGEM) -

Canton firefighters battled a barn fire Sunday night, the third in a string of fires in the last two days.

Canton Fire Chief Joe LaCount says he believes the fire was ignited by a piece of farm equipment in the barn. LaCount says the fire is not believed to be connected to the Friday fires in Canton.

The barn fire happened at the corner of McRoberts and Marks Road around 4:30 p.m. According to authorities, flames were visible coming out of the barn, as well as around 20 surrounding hay bales. Firefighters reported heavy fire and very heavy smoke and had the fire contained quickly.

The blaze is still under investigation.
