American Red Cross assists typhoon victims

QUINCY, Ill. (WGEM) - The death toll after the devastating typhoon in the Philippines is over 10,000. Now many people in the Tri-States are looking for ways to help.

Red Cross executive director Pam Shaffer in Quincy said the best thing you can do is make a financial donation. She said you can do this by check, over the phone or online.

She said the American Red Cross sent over disaster relief specialists to assist with relief effort, but the largest hurdle is still the limited communication.

"So family members cannot get a hold of one another, what we do say is if you have someone living over in the Philippines and you can't get a hold of them, contact the Red Cross and we can start a tracing service on them," said Shaffer.
