Firefighters raise money for mammograms

QUINCY, Ill. (WGEM) - You may have noticed Quincy firefighters wearing pink t-shirts this fall, but it wasn't a fashion statement; it was all for charity.

Quincy Fire Department presented a check to the blessing breast center for nearly $8,000 Tuesday.

They spent October selling the t-shirts and now the money they raised will go to help women get mammograms. Chief Joe Henning said the firefighters were happy to help the cause.

"It's something that is prevalent in society," Henning said. "Everyone's been touched by breast cancer in some way, some form. It's a chance for us to have a little bit of fun. It's not every day that you see a group of guys in pink t-shirts working at the fire house."

Henning said one of the firefighters designed the shirts.
