Salvation Army kicks off Christmas Campaign

Starting Friday, you'll start to see those familiar red kettles, as the Quincy Salvation Army officially kicks off its Christmas Campaign and with the number of people needing assistance, officials say this is the time to give.

The Salvation Army holds its annual 'Tree of Lights Christmas Kick-off' dinner Friday at 6 pm, where officials are expected to announce their campaign goal for this year.

Last year the campaign generated more than $375,000 towards Christmas food baskets and toys, along with giving year-round assistance for food, rent and utilities to families in need. Major Andrew Miller said it's important to remember that all the money raised stays here in the community.

"Some of those needs are those simple things such as a Christmas gift, food on a table, our Thanksgiving or Christmas meal," said Miller. "There's so many different ways that people can take part in the Salvation Army at Christmas time."

Volunteers are also needed to help with various Christmas programs and activities throughout the season. You're asked to call (217) 231-5633 for more information on how you can help.
