MACOMB, Ill. (WGEM) -- Bob Nielson says it feels like only yesterday when his first fall camp kicked off as Western Illinois football coach.
In Nielson words, the nearly four-month trek through preseason practice and a 12-game schedule has flown by.
The Leathernecks snapped a five-game losing streak with Saturday's win at Indiana State and now the attention turns to the final contest of 2013 with a trip to Northern Iowa set for this weekend.
Admittedly, the season has been a roller coaster ride for Nielson but overall he's pleased with the performance and he's looking forward to one final week with his team.
"It's been a good year and it's been a fun year. We've had some struggles but we've battled through, and it's something we can build on for the future," Nielson said.
"A game like this gives us an opportunity to play one of the premiere teams, not just in the conference, but in the country, and gauge our progress as a program against one of those top teams."
Despite having only handful of healthy seniors Nielson says he's hopeful his veteran players will get one last taste of victory when Western visits the UNI Dome for Saturday's 4 p.m. kick-off.
