Quincy Police starting holiday patrols

Quincy Police have a warning for you heading into the days before Christmas: make sure you're celebrating safely.

Starting Wednesday night officers will be out all over town, specifically looking for drunk drivers and people not wearing their seatbelts.

Chief Deputy Curt Kelty says  extra officers will even be called in to help with the operation, focusing on the times of day when these incidents are more likely to happen.

He hopes by raising awareness about these patrols, people will make safety a high priority.

"The goal is to get everyone to comply, to think about what they're doing, plan ahead, get a designated driver, call for a taxi, call a friend, but we want them to think about it and not do it. We'd rather not make any arrests if we don't have to, we'd rather have everyone comply," Kelty says.

Kelty says these patrols will go through January 1st.
