Kids staying busy in snow day programs

QUINCY, Ill. (WGEM) - When school is called off, many parents are left scrambling to find a place for their kids to go during the day.

Some parents who don't have a regular daycare center turn to other programs.

The Quincy YMCA offers a program, School Out Days, for kids in kindergarten through eighth grade.

Directors say they've had around 20 extra kids each day this week taking advantage of the program.

"Maybe it's kind of last-minute," Marketing Director Michelle Terwelp said. "They can come and we welcome the kids all the time. It's just kind of something that's available last-minute.  It's a safe environment where they can learn, grow, learn a physical activity and keep them active all day."

The cost is $25 per day and the program is open for scheduled school breaks as well.
