Keokuk police investigating string of vandalism

KEOKUK, Ia. (WGEM) - The Keokuk Police Department says detectives are investigating several reports of vandalism that occurred throughout the weekend.

Chief Dave Hinton says his department has received 36 reports of vandalism since Friday with calls coming in as late as Monday morning. The majority of the damage was done to vehicles as the vandals mostly broke windows and side mirrors.

"It happened all over town, not just one area," Hinton said. "We don't have much information or leads yet, so we're asking for the public's help."

The vandalism didn't occur overnight.

"We had one instance that happened while people were in the car," Hinton said.

Police dealt with a similar situation in August when several cars were damaged, but Hinton says there's no indication the two instances are linked.
