NECAC urging people to sign up for insurance

There's only about two months left to apply for insurance under the Affordable Care Act, if you haven't already.  Thursday night, NECAC held an informational meeting in Hannibal to help anyone who has questions about the process.

NECAC officials say there's a big concern not a lot of people are getting signed up for insurance under the Affordable Care Act.  A few people came to the informational meeting to find out which policy is best for them and get their questions answered.  Brenda Coffey signed up Thursday night to get help with the online application.  Coffey said she waited so long because the accessibility wasn't there.

"I don't have internet or anything like that and my girls have helped me out with that and with how their work schedule is and things we haven't been able to work that out just yet," Coffey said.

Insurance Exchange Navigator Tiffany Coleman-Dade doesn't expect there to be an extension to the March 31st deadline to apply for health insurance.  Coleman-Dade said it's important those in Northeast Missouri get insured as soon as possible.

"So this region we're in right now is one of the poorest regions.  We have a lot of folks that are under-insured and uninsured that we have to get those taken care of," Coleman-Dade said.

If you missed Thursday night's informational meeting, there will be more in the coming weeks.  For those in Marion County, there will be open enrollment assistance at the NECAC office on February 6.  For assistance in your county, you can contact your local NECAC office.
