McDonough District Hospital expansion project close to getting underway

MACOMB, Ill. (WGEM) - McDonough District Hospital in Macomb is getting closer to starting work on an expansion project.

CEO Kenny Boyd said bids went out to sub-contractors earlier in the week, putting the project in the final step of planning phases.

Boyd said the estimated $32 million expansion will add more space to the hospital's emergency unit, as well as an additional wing for a new geriatric psychiatry unit.

"It will really move us to the type of organization we need to be," Boyd said. "We will improve patient privacy, and patient safety through private rooms, and help improve the efficiency and workflow. So hopefully in the end, the ultimate goal is improving the patient experience," Boyd said.

Boyd expects final bids on the project to be submitted sometime next month, which will then have to be approved by the board before construction can begin.
