Freezing rain caused caused mess on vehicles across the Tri-States

QUINCY, Ill. (WGEM) - Many people across the Tri-States woke up to a thick sheet of ice on their windshields Saturday morning.

Drivers say they were scraping away for at least 20 minutes to clear their vehicles.

Some drivers estimate they had to pick away about an inch of ice.

"It's just part of winter," Terry Waters said. "You have to take the good with the bad unfortunately. We got hit with some ice last night so you have to let the car warm up and start scraping."

"I had a can of de-icer so I thought it was going to be pretty easy to just melt the ice, but the ice is so thick that it's just soaking into the ice and it's just not working," Jonathan Rathbun said.
