Ft. Madison, Ia. (WGEM) -- Holy Trinity senior and Fort Madison standout fullback and linebacker Ben Votroubek signed his national letter of intent with Carleton College in Minnesota on Friday.

Votroubek has worked tirelessly for this opportunity having commuted to HTC from Keokuk each day, and then traveling to Fort Madison High School for practice.

His decision boiled down to the combination of the gridiron and the classroom.

"I was going to play football no matter what I did and the academic is more the icing on the cake," he told WGEM Sports.

"It's exciting either because I get to play a high level of football and I get a high level of academics. They scale out the same."

"What my message to that program would be (is), you've got a great kid who once you tell what you need out of him it's going to happen," added Fort Madison head coach Todd Mcghgy.

"That's the paramount issue to me if I were building a program at that level."

Votroubek plans on playing a hybrid position at the next level, as a combination of fullback and tight end.

He was one of six student-athletes from Holy Trinity to play football at Fort Madison last fall.
