More healthy people at risk of contracting flu strain
QUINCY, Ill. (WGEM) -
The flu has been at epidemic levels since mid-January and The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says it's affecting more young and middle-aged adults.
Immunization Coordinator Tara Bealor with the Adams County Health Department says the flu usually targets the very old and the very young. However, this season, the CDC reports 60 percent of those hospitalized for influenza have been between the ages of 18 to 64.
"The flu activity nationwide is decreasing but it typically can last through the next month," Bealor said. "A lot of times it can go through May."
