Three firefighters injured while battling Coatsburg blaze

COATSBURG, Ill. (WGEM) -- Three firefighters were injured Monday night while battling a house fire in rural Coatsburg.

Crews were called to a home at 1830 E. 1850th Street just south of Coatsburg around 7:15 p.m. Flames and heavy smoke could be seen coming from the house.

Adams County Emergency Management director John Simon said two people were inside the house at the time but got out safely.

Simon says three firefighters were taken to the hospital with injuries after a portion of the ceiling collapsed on them. One of the firefighters was treated and released. The other two were admitted to Blessing Hospital and are in good condition.

Sixty firefighters from Central Adams, Camp Point, Liberty, and Clayton were called in to battle the blaze, along with several ambulance crews.

Adams County Sheriff's deputies were also rerouting traffic along Highway 24 through Coatsburg.  The Coatsburg/Columbus blacktop was also closed for a few hours while firefighters were on scene.

The cause of the fire is unknown at this time. Investigators from Illinois State Fire Marshal's Office were expected to be on scene Tuesday morning.
