Cleanup continues on what once was the historic Newcomb Hotel

QUINCY, Ill. (WGEM) - The site where Quincy's historic Newcomb Hotel once stood is now a 20,000 square foot hole.

City Planner Chuck Bevelheimer says the contractor, BSB Development, has completed the debris-removal phase of the project. At this point, BSB is starting to haul in dirt to fill the lot.

Bevelheimer says so far, no major issues have come up during the project.

"We've dealt with most of the architectural features that have come out without an incident," Bevelheimer said. "We were concerned about some of those issues and getting those, I guess captured, for the historical society. And we've got those taken care of. Although the columns are still on site."

Bevelheimer says it looks like they're ahead of schedule, but progress could be impacted by any bad weather.
