Signs honoring active duty military

Posted:
PITTSFIELD, Ill. (WGEM) - After seeing a similar idea in another town, one local FFA chapter is now working on a unique project to honor military men and women in active duty.

The FFA chapter at Pittsfield High School has started placing more than 20 placards around the downtown area. The signs display the names of active duty military.

"We do all these things to honor veterans but, you really don't see that many things that are honoring people in active duty," FFA Member Frazier Curless said.

When the soldier is no longer on active duty, the sign is then given to them or their family.

"We just want to honor them because a lot of them are classmates of ours," FFA Member Josie VanWinkle said. "Now we can all see it hanging up in our town."

Each sign costs around $80 and was paid for through FFA donations and fundraisers.
