Shamrocks are popping up all over the Tri-States as local businesses are doing their part to raise money for Muscular Dystrophy research.
The Ayerco Gas station at 48th and State in Quincy has sold more than 550 shamrocks so far this month for the MDA's annual St. Patrick's Day Fundraiser.
It only takes $1 to get your name on a green shamrock.
Ayerco Store Manager Debbie Waters says she's happy to be a part of the fundraiser because her son Michael, is affected by the disease.
"He's been in remission for about 10 years now, maybe more," Waters said. "I never really realized how many people in this area really have it. I've talked to a lot of people and I just want you to know that if you donate this dollar, it really helps so many people. It helps with wheelchairs, camps, medicine, hospital and doctor bills, anything you can think of."
Several other area businesses are participating in the annual fundraiser. If you'd like to donate, you have until Monday to do so.
