Quincy parade kicks off St. Patrick's Day celebrations

QUINCY, Ill. (WGEM) - Tri-state residents kicked off their St. Patrick's Day celebrations at the Quincy parade on Saturday.

The sound of bagpipes and a sea of green filled Quincy's Maine Street.

"I've been bringing my grand kids here for six years," parade attendee Diane Breckenkamp said. "We try to come early and get a good spot."

"It's taking us back to our Irish roots, and hopefully we can eat some corned beef and cabbage," parade attendee Jayson Gilliland said.

Curtis Sethaler came to the parade to spend time with his daughter.

"It's something fun to do for her," Sethaler said. "I've always grown up loving parades, but it's awesome just to see the joy that kids have when they get to come out, and just have fun and socialize.

Kids also agreed they loved one certain part of the parade: the candy.

Whether people came out to dance, watch floats go by, or see the WGEM News Team, attendees agreed they had a good time.

"Everybody loves Saint Patrick's Day," parade attendee Brittany Leavell said.
