American Red Cross releases new flood app

QUINCY, Ill. (WGEM) - Spring weather always brings the threat of flooding, and emergency officials are putting lifesaving information at your fingertips.

The American Red Cross released a brand new app Monday, just in time for National Flood Safety Week.

The app lets you know what to do before, during and after a flood. It also features messaging that allows users to send a message letting family and friends know that they are out of harm's way.

"It'll let you know when the flood stages are up on the Mississippi River, Illinois River or wherever a person lives," Emergency Services Manager Glenn Fischer said. "The water is going to run on land and this could be anywhere from a small community to farm land."

The app is free and is available through the American Red Cross website as well as through the Apple App Store and Google Play Store.
