Local schools take part in 'Reading is FUNdamental' program

QUINCY, Ill. (WGEM) - Students at Washington Elementary School went home with a new book Tuesday as part of the 'Reading is FUNdamental' or RIF Program.

Members from Quincy Service League read a book aloud to students Tuesday morning. Kids were then able to pick out a free book of their own. This was just one of three distributions each year to five elementary schools in Quincy.

"It's so neat to give these books to kids and to let them go home with something of their own," Lindsay Ertel with Quincy Service League said. "They get excited to go home and sit down with their parents, with their brothers and sisters and read the story to them. It gets them excited about reading, which is all we can ask for."

Quincy Service League members will be reading and distributing free books Wednesday at Adams Elementary.
