DOT Foods hosts job fair, Brown County boasts lowest unemployment in state

Brown County has the lowest unemployment rate in Illinois at 4.2 percent, and the county's largest employer is hiring even more people to help keep that number down.

Dot Foods held a job fair in Mt. Sterling Thursday.  The food redistributer is looking to hire 30 people to fill positions for its newly-expanded dry and frozen warehouses.  Brown County officials say it's these types of jobs that keep unemployment numbers low and cement Brown County's place on the map.

"It's a nice boost for us, it's a shot in the arm," Brown County Chair David Ferrill said.  "It helps all of us in many different ways, like taxes and dollars that roll over. Dot has never had a layoff in the 54 years that Dot Foods has been in business. They offer an outstanding benefits program, one of the best in the Tri-State area."

Applicants were vying for jobs with starting wages ranging from $13.35 to $16.75 per hour.
