QUINCY, Ill. (WGEM) -- Quincy Notre Dame will have a bulls eye on its back every time they step on the field in 2014, and rightfully so.

Mark Longo's team is looking for a third consecutive state championship, and the fourth class 1A title in the last five years.

"When we started the year out that was the first conversation," Longo told WGEM Sports.

"We're a two time state champ, three out of the last four years, and that target is just huge on our back. We have to come out game in and game out and be ready to play."

Even with the loss of all-state forward Jordan Frericks who scored 27 goals in 2013, there is still plenty of reason for optimism.

Cassidy Foley is back after scoring a team high 36 goals last season, added with arguably the most talented group of underclassmen in Illinois.

"I think coming out and having such a good game against Macomb really built the freshman's confidence and got them a little used to playing with us and playing our style," senior forward Cassidy Foley expressed.

"I think that will help us a lot, the freshman are going to be a key for us this year."

"Just playing with these girls is a lot of fun, and learning about them and getting better with them is a lot of fun," added freshman forward McKenzie Foley, who scored four goals in QND's opening win against Macomb.

"I'm excited to see what comes next."

Having some new players and freshman come in, they work hard and we all work hard at practice to try to make it back to state and accomplish our goal," said senior defender Shelby Ulrich.

After breezing to a 10 goal victory in their opening match against Macomb, the Lady Raiders will have an immediate test this weekend in Jefferson City, where Helias awaits as the last team to hand QND a loss.

"I think that's going to be a hurdle right here, to see how was handle a good team that is going to be competitive and want to beat us," Cassidy Foley expressed.

"I think that's going to be a big step for us to see what we can do this weekend."
