Sheriff warns about phone scam

QUINCY, Ill. (WGEM) - Another phone scam is surfacing in the area.

Adams County Sheriff Brent Fischer says he's gotten a lot of complaints about a company named "KIPA" with the area code 786 making calls to land lines at all hours of the day and night.

Fischer says the calls are automated and prompt the person to press the two button on their phones.

Fischer says he doesn't know what the company is trying to do, but he says following the prompts could lead to hefty phone bill charges.

Anyone getting this call is advised to hang up and get on the no-call list by calling 1-888-382-1222.

Fischer says most of the people getting the calls are Adams Telephone customers.
