Pike County school cuts band and ag programs

The band and ag programs are out in the Western School District in Pike County, Illinois.

After meeting for several hours Tuesday night, the school board made the tough decision to cut those programs for financial reasons.

School Board President Lorc Weir says the decision had to be made because of dwindling state funding.  The move will save the school about $100,000.

We talked with Western's FFA president, who says the ag program is important enough for her to consider attending another school that offers FFA.

"I would probably cry because FFA means a lot to me, and I would try to help the other members who obviously are going to cry with me and the next step would probably be looking at another school," Lori Woods said.

The school board president says more cuts could still be made.  The board will be taking a closer look at other areas soon.
