Fort Madison schools announce new pre-K program

Posted:
FORT MADISON, Ia. (WGEM) - Families not eligible for head start in Fort Madison may be able to send their kids to preschool for free this fall.

The school district will partner with YMCA's Y Kids Preschool and Carousel Preschool for the program. The decision still hinges on an application approval by the Iowa Department of Education.

Eligible students must turn four-years-old by Sept. 15.  Both preschools will start taking names and parents can register the week of April 14.

Carousel Preschool will take registrations from 8 a.m. to noon Monday through Thursday, and the YMCA will take registrations from 5:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. Parents will need to pay a fee for registration to hold their child's spot.

Children who qualify for head start in Fort Madison are asked to take advantage of that program.
