Quincy park roads reopen after winter

QUINCY, Ill. (WGEM) - Another sign that spring has sprung is that all of the roads in Quincy parks are now reopened after a long, harsh winter.

Quincy Park District officials say crews spent all this week clearing off leaves, sticks and other debris from the roads that were closed for the winter.

Officials say some roads are closed to prevent them from being damaged by vehicles in winter weather conditions.

"The roads are tar and chip, so the freezing and thawing would do a lot more damage than needed so we kind of wait for the frost to come out of the ground that way the surface hardens up a little bit and that way we can let the cars and trucks go over the roads," Rome Frericks of the Quincy Park District said.

Officials say water will be turned back on at Bob Mays, Reservoir, Madison and South Park this weekend.

Crews will get the water back on at the other parks by the end of next week.
